If we pause for a moment and reflect, one truth becomes very clear — your body is alive, and it manages itself. Every heartbeat, every breath, every act of digestion or healing happens without your conscious effort. This itself tells us something profound: the body is a self-regulating, self-managing mechanism.
But the question is — on what basis does the body manage itself?
What gives it the ability to function, adapt, repair and heal?
The Language of Nature: Pressure and Temperature
Modern science tells us that everything in this universe functions through pressure and temperature.
- Clouds move because of pressure gradients — from high pressure to low pressure.
- Water rises from the ground to nourish the leaves of a tree due to pressure differences.
- As we climb a hill, atmospheric pressure reduces and so does temperature.
- Higher pressure is associated with higher temperature; lower pressure with lower temperature.
These are not isolated phenomena. They are universal principles. Life itself moves because of pressure and temperature.
The Body Is No Exception
Our body is not separate from nature — it is nature.
The human system also functions within a pressure–temperature ecosystem.
Ayurveda described this thousands of years ago, using a different language:
- Vata represents the pressure principle — movement, force, effort, flow.
- Pitta represents the thermal principle — heat, transformation, digestion, metabolism.
- Kapha represents the material principle — structure, substance, tissues, stability.
Together, these three govern how food is digested, nutrients are assimilated, cells regenerate, and energy is distributed.
In simple terms:
Material (Kapha) is used and transformed through pressure (Vata) and temperature (Pitta).
Why Vata Is Called the King
Even in Ayurveda, it is clearly stated that Vata is the king of the doshas. Why?
Because without pressure, nothing moves.
Without effort-making ability, digestion cannot happen, circulation cannot happen, healing cannot happen.
Yet over time, this understanding has been diluted. Treatments began focusing mainly on external substances — medicines, herbs, supplements, foods — without restoring the internal strength-creating mechanism of the body.
Ayurveda cannot truly reach the world unless this core principle is revived.
“Yatha Balam Tatha Jagat”
One of the foundational principles of Ayurveda says:
“Yatha Balam Tatha Jagat”
As is the strength, so is the world.
Your experience of health, disease, recovery and resilience depends entirely on the strength your system holds — not on what is imposed from outside.
Why External Substances Alone Cannot Heal
This leads to a very important understanding:
The body cannot truly be treated by any external substance — whether chemical, natural, herbal, or even food.
External inputs can support, suppress, or stimulate.
But healing happens only when the body has sufficient internal strength — the ability to generate pressure, manage temperature, and intelligently use material.
When this inner ecosystem is weak, no medicine can permanently fix the problem. When it is strong, even minimal support is enough.
Returning to the Wisdom of Balance
Understanding Vata, Pitta and Kapha is not about labeling diseases.
It is about learning how life functions inside us.
When pressure (Vata) is balanced, temperature (Pitta) is regulated, and material (Kapha) is used efficiently, the body naturally moves towards health.
This is not theory.
It is how nature works — inside and outside us.
And when we align with this understanding, healing stops being forced and starts becoming natural.

Excellent,
Thank you guruji so well explained. We know about doshas in a general way but here it is made so clear.
I have been doing kumbhak since March last year and do find an appreciable shift in energy levels and mind control. A happy result of weight loss, not much but enough to keep up the practice. Though no major health issues the pain in the knees persists, hopefully it should reduce. Thank you again.
How about stammering. This can be diagnosed by doing Kumbhak practice ?
