As India lights up to celebrate the grand five-day festival of Deepavali, homes come alive with joy, laughter, and the soft glow of diyas. The air feels festive, the nights sparkle, and the season reminds us of abundance and new beginnings. The celebrations begin with Dhanteras, a day we have long associated with prosperity — buying gold, silver, or something new for the home. But somewhere along the way, we have drifted from what this day was truly meant to represent.
The Forgotten Meaning of Dhanteras – The word Dhanteras does not come from Dhan, meaning wealth — it comes from Bhagwan Dhanvantari, the divine physician and Lord of Ayurveda, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu himself.
According to our ancient scriptures, Bhagwan Dhanvantari appeared during the Samudra Manthan — the great churning of the cosmic ocean — carrying in one hand the Amrit Kalash, the pot of nectar symbolizing immortality, and in the other, the knowledge of Ayurveda, symbolizing eternal health and balance.
That moment reminds us that true wealth lies in health, not possessions. When our body, mind, and prana (life force) flow in harmony, everything else — peace, prosperity, and happiness — follows naturally.
Over time, we have turned a day that once celebrated health and spiritual abundance into a festival of material accumulation. But the Dhan in Dhanteras was never about gold. It was about Dhanvantari, about honouring the divine healer within us and nurturing the Amrit — the vitality — that flows through our being.
Reclaiming the Real Dhanteras – At Avisa Healing and Fitness, we believe Dhanteras is not about adding more to your shelves and lockers — it’s about adding value to your life.
This year, let us celebrate differently. Let us make this day about reconnecting with what truly matters:
- Begin a small daily practice that aligns your body and breath.
- Eat fresh, living food that nourishes and grounds you.
- Breathe with awareness, not just survival.
- Light a lamp not only in your home but within your heart.
When we care for our health, we attract peace, energy, and clarity — the kind of prosperity no bank can store and no market can sell.
Our ancient ancestors knew a timeless truth — that abundance flows from a body that is balanced, pure, and grateful. When we eat food that nourishes, think thoughts that calm, and act in ways that uplift, we honour the very vessel through which divinity expresses itself.
This Deepavali and Dhanteras, let us make a promise to ourselves:
To choose the dhan of vitality, peace, and conscious action — the kind that no price can measure, and no possession can replace.
From all of us at Avisa Healing and Fitness, – May this Dhanteras and Deepavali bless you with radiant health, inner light, and a heart full of gratitude — because that’s the real wealth we were always meant to celebrate. ✨
